Welcome to the Campaign Desk

Politics is a dirty word. Unfortunately, we see a lot of it surrounding the recreational fishing body. Our Campaign link is here to provide you with relevant information on topical issues that anglers' face. This may include a brief background, relevant contact details on people you may wish to contact in relation to the issue or petitions to sign, which will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

NO MORE VICTORIAN MARINE PARKS!

July 16, 2010

This week the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA) proposed 19 new marine parks for Victoria including an extension of the existing park at Point Nepean and four new parks directly affecting users of Port Phillip Bay and Westernport. Say NO today. Sign our online petition.

Click on the following link to see the proposed map of the Marine Parks:

http://vnpa.org.au/admin/library/attachments/Marine/marine-priority-areas.pdf

The petition:

"To the Victorian Environment Minister & Federal Environment Minister,

As recreational anglers we oppose the new proposal by the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA) for a series of 19 extended or new marine parks in Victoria.  There is little scientific evidence to support the marine park concept and further lock-outs will adversely affect the largest recreational sport in Australia, to the economic detriment of the many businesses that survive on this favoured pastime.

We urge the government at both a state and federal level to oppose the extension and/or creation of new marine parks in Victoria."

I am against any future marine parks with Victorian Waters. Our beautiful waters should be left alone for everyone to enjoy!

No more discrimination against fisho's! We care for our environment as much as any one else.

Martin Ellul - Warrnambool, Victoria. Australia

Save our fishing !

Stan Crossley - south gippsland, vic. aust

Once again the extreme green machine has decided to grab another slice of the Victorian coast. Their science does not exist and at best is completely flawed and biased against all fishers. Stand up and be heard, without a lot of noise we will loose more of our favorite areas, then when we are pushed into tighter area's theywill plot our demise due to no fish in allowable area's.

will - Melbourne, Vic. Aust

Why does the government listen to minority groups?

Phil Walters - St Leonards, Vic. Australia

NO MORE Marine parks WITHOUT proper stakeholder consultation (rec fishers!) AND Verifiable scientific reports!!

Darren Ryan - Point Cook, Victoria, Australia. Australia

No more marine parks

mitchell bierge - Brikdale, Queensland. Australia

Where is the science to say need all these marine parks closure's around the country well they couldn't show us with Moreton Bay marine here in Queensland and why is the poor Rec angler single out we care more about the fishing environment The Greens try paint us as environmentally vandals which we are not and make out that fishing is a very bad thing to do in this society today also don't realise how people are employed directly & indirectly in the whole marine industry with it take out the fishing part people won't go camping & 4WD and boating or go to holiday places an so on will cost jobs

Patrick Sportelli - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

I fish and I vote

Mick Carlsson - Dandenong , Victoria. Australia

Bill Folino - Mount Martha , Vic. Australia

No more marine parks, what i've witnessed, the majority of recreational fisho's are the ones who protect these area's, we don't need politicians to tell us. Get tough on commercial fishing and let us enjoy our beautiful waterways.

Tyson Volke - Geelong, Vic. Aus

David O'Brien - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

I oppose any further marine parks in Victorian waters without consultation with rec anglers. Time to stand up and shout again.

Mick Larson - Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. Australia

If they want to save the bay they should get rid of all the commercial fishing first and then watch they bay come back to life! I am all for saving the enviroment but commen sense needs to happen .

J HUBBARD - Alma, Victoria. Aus

Nothing proven that rec fishing harms these areas. For a very small minority group of people that only wish to disrupt a past time, and no valid scientific study to back it up are being listened to by the relevant authorities, are they that gullible or do they also have a hidden agenda

Lon Akritidis - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

Enough is enough, time to stand up and be heard.

rodney valentine - melbourne, VIC. Australia

There appears to be no science provided with the request for new marine parks .

nigel rooney - Coffs Harbour, NSW. Australia

Save our Aussie lifestyle NOW before it is to late!

Kevin Murphy - Mornington, Victoria. Australia

Access to our coastal waters needs to be kept open for all recreational pursuits

Darren Lay - Woodside, Victoria. Australia

My rights and the rights of hudreds of thousands of other anglers, are being disregarded in the push to create more marine parks. The reasons used are idealistic not REAListic! Anglers contribute revenue in the $BILLIONS to our economy and in doing so create an enormous amount of jobs in various sectors. Many coastal areas will struggle to survive without their biggest visitor base. Our waterways are for ALL and angling is one the oldest pursuits on them.

Robert Palcak - Geelong, Vic. Australia

Glen Sparks - Mt Gambier, SA. Australia

No name entered - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

Don't kill our recreation

John Mihai - Keilor, Vic. Australia

Recreational fisherman are perhaps the majority of Australians that access and use the resources in the proposed new marine parks areas. Therefore the recreational fishermen must have greater equity in the management of the resource. I question the integrity of the VNPA that has conveniently delayed these proposed new marine parks after the dredging of the bay. Consultation and management of our resource is required not irrational decisions by a minority that has the power force change.

keith diprose(aka skitzy) - melbourne, vic. australia

stop trying to take away anglers right to enjoy this fantastic.waterway.

Neville Quick - Ballarat, vic.. Australia

Stop locking up our waterways.

Simon D'Antino - Geelong, Victoria. Aus

u r being idealistic not REAListic, you can't take away our rights! i strongly oppose any further Victorian Marine Parks!

Greg Downes - Ferntree Gully 3156, Vic. Aust

You have brought in saltwater fishing licenses to help protect our fishing (or so you say), yet you continue to lock us out of most productive areas, leaving us sand to fish. Why don't you simply grow a spine and admit you wish to pander to the extreme Greens and ban fishing?

Greg Beatty - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

No more Vic marine parks - do your job and manage fishing, not banning it

Adam Stan - Melborne, Victoria. Australia

Please don't distroy the sport we love!

John Meggs - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

No more marine parks!

ashley shaw - melbourne, victoria. australia

do your research and come to us with solid evidence, i strongly oppose these marine parks give us a fair go

Brad Palmer - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

I stringently oppose any further marine parks remove the commercial fisherman from the bay

Rodney Gilham - Traralgon, VIC. Australia

Leave our coast alone. Fishing impact is very minimal to the marine environment.

sean tobin - melbourne, vic. australia

we as recreational fisho,s do more for the environment and looking after something that we enjoy and do as a family and that,s fishing. NO more marine parks.

Heath Chilton - Doreen, VIC. Australia

Peter Morcomb - Newlands Arm, Victoria. Australia

At 2010, Victoria's population was estimated at nearly 6,000,000. Of that it was also estimated that approx. 35% have actually fished at one time or other in their lives. Now, let's compare that with the total membership of the Victorian branch of the VNPA (not national beacuase these parks under scrutiny do not efect them) and one would find a masiive discrepancy. I always thought in a democracy majority rules. Let's get the corproartions, the small businesses involved to fight a minority organisation who wants to dictate to the majority. Governments have been changed for less.

Simon Whitelaw - Carrum Downs, Vic. Australia

People who use these area's should have a say not just supposed experts

Amber Potocnik - Oakleigh, Vic. Australia

I am not against Marine Parks as a concept but the scale of this proposal and the areas selected are of great concern

Dawn Potocnik - FTGully, Vic. Australia

Too many areas. It is an an outrage.

Trevor Irving - melbourne, victoria. Australia

police these areas with fisheries officers catch and prosecute wrongdoers don't dam and ban the majority who by and large try doing the right thing

michael jacobs - melbourne, vic. australia

we as recreational fisherman have very minimal affect on these sea grasses unlike the proffessional fisherman[netters] where they continually drag their nets across the seabeds.ban them first and i think this will solve your problem.

No name entered - Lorne, Victoria. Australia

I oppose the creation of new marine parks in Victoria

Stephen Rando - Mordialloc, Victoria. Australia

I Fish I Vote.......No More Marine Parks. We the Recreational Angler, care about fish stocks, and the environment, we don't need more marine parks.

Stephen Atto - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

These areas are for all of us to use responsibly, and not to locked by a minority.

Terry McAuliffe - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

The introduction of more marine parks is a ludicrous decision. I adamantly oppose the extension of the current boundaries. My voting in the up coming federal election will be determined by whichever party opposes the marine park legislation.

Jason Macs - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

Andrew Wilson - Melbourne, Vic. Aust.

No more marine parks. enough is enough.

Shane Rodwell - Menzies Creek, Victoria. Australia

Enough with the Marine Parks! Just Ban the Commercial Fishing of the area's

Richard saunders - thornbury, victoria. australia

This is an unfounded, unreasonable grab for OUR coastline.

Tony Alevizopoulos - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

We the Recreational Angler, care about fish stocks, and the environment, we don't need more marine parks. Manage fishing (including Commercial fishing), not banning it. Just look at the Commercial Fishing Statistics of the Gippsland Lakes and review the catch limits / quota per year. Changing it to a Marine Park will just punish the recreational fishing person.

martin vandenberg - MONBULK, VIC. AUS

GIVE THE FISHOS A BREAK- WE CARE

John Vincent - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

No more marine parks,

Grant - Barrack Heights, NSW. Australia

dorve down a15km dirt track today near Batemans bay to go for a dive to get a cray with my girl in her new car, next thing i know there is conflicting signs, one saying i was in a Habitat protection zone the other saying i was in a protection zone. one allowing me to take the other not??? why not just reduce bag limits instead of making a bit of this area no take, if there is an endagered species that only lives in that one area make it no take of that species or no anchor. i oppose to the victorian marine parks make it easy reduce bag limits and heavy fines for those who break the law, more fisheries officers to patrol.

brett grattidge - oak park, vic . australia

No more marine parks

Kathie Stan - New Gisborne, Vic. Australia

jared betts - melbourne, Vic. Australia

no marine parks in vic give us a break

colincheng - patterson lakes, vic. Aus

Totally opposes to more marine parks.

Keith Kneebone - Warriewood, NSW. Australia

Management by exclusion is not management it is admission that you can't manage!

taz - rye, vic. australia

that would be right blame rec fisho's, they should put more fisheries officers on potrol instead if there that worried about over fishing.

Chris Cosgriff - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

Research and management comes before extremists. No marine parks

Roy Pentland - Moolap, Victoria. Australia

Without valid scientific reasoning, no Government should make such rash decisions, tell the VNPA "No"

Crostar - point Cook, Vic. Aust

listen to the rec fishers before imposing more marine parks on us, think of all the money that families like mine put into fishing. I fish & I vote!

Allan Sunderland - Numurkah, Victoria. Australia

Enough is enough!! It's time governments started consulting with their constituents & taking away our common rights

Aidan - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

No name entered - melbourne, Victoria. Australia

Enough is enough, scientific decisions made from the back of a weetbix carton

Bill Allen - Melbourne, Vic'. Australia

Fishing is both economically & environmentally sound & a very important part of Australian heritage. i will pollitically oppose (stringently voite against)any individual or party that challenge the chosen lifestyle of legitimate recreational fisherpeople in Australia.

Tim Plummer - Melbourne, Vic. Aust

Show us the science behind the call for more marine parks. This will not exist. No more marine parks.

No name entered - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

No name entered - Chinside Park, Voctoria. Australia

There are enough marine parks as it is, we don't need anymore restrictions to the amature anglers.

Steve Hamerston - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

I fish, I vote, No more marine parks for Victoria.

Wiley Sims - Bundoora, Victoria. Australia

I vote I fish, These dopey politiicans don't realise the contributionto the economy of recreational fishing. Try banning commecial fishing in all esturine and bay systems.

Scott Cumming - Highett, Victoria. Australia

We dont want the day when we cant take out our family and catch a couple of fish for the table. No wonder theres more violent crime. Kids wont have any recreational outlet which teaches about nature respect and where our food comes from. All that will remain is hi tech pro boats that take from areas no one else can get to (out of sight....) and sell to overseas markets.

Michael Diamente - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

Stop pointing the finger at recreational anglers for depleted fish stocks and look at the commercial netters.

Rick placzek - melbourne, vic. australia

Time to make a stand and common sence will provale

May Lynn - St Kilda , VIC . Australia

david stockley - melbourne, vic. australia

Garret go fuck yourself, talk to the whole community about this issue insetead of your fucked greeny mates! Your causing more damage to this country than any of us recriational fishermen!

Gareth Thompson - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

No respect for the recreational fishing voters as proven by not showing up to the round table discussion. Time to prove us wrong and listen to the voice of the recreational anglers, our votes count too.

ben calamatta - morninton peninsula, vic. aus

I strongly oppose the imposition of marine parks. Give us a break - we care for the future of rec fishing and the enviroments in which we fish.

Jason Stan - Greendale, Vic. Australia

Have spent many great hours fishing as a family, but a minority want to take that away. Fishing keep little towns like Mallacoota going, but a minority wants to take that away. It would be nice to take away the minority group!

fraser browne - melbourne, victoria. australia

im all for conservation. But how many fish targeted by Victorian anglers have gone extinct before any marine parks where introduced? do the scientifific research. use my fishing licence money to fund it. but dont spin crap that the fishery will collapse and create one big ,marine park for your hidden greenie agenda

Scott Cunningham - Upper Beaconsfield, Victoria. Australia

No more knee jerks - where's the science proving the necessity for extended Marine Parks? What increase in species is directly attributable to the first marine parks?

Greg Murphy - Mooroopna, Victoria. Australia

I oppse any further victorian Marine parks, leave the recreational fisherman be,our fees entail bag limits, with the enforcement of bag limits,it does protect fish stocks,so to me as far as i'm concearned it just seems to be some political Green Dream, for gods sake pollies get real and stop thinking about sanctuing off everything for once,& start thinking off the everyday average people for once,we have got enough parks.

Damian Shaw - Rowville, Victoria. Australia

I concur whole heartedly...

Scott McCarthy - Kalorama, Victoria. Australia

Labor has just lost my vote on this issue. Backroom deals with the Greens for votes will cost you dearly! WeFish and We Vote!

Steve Jacobs - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

No more marine parks.I fish for pleasure and a feed of fresh fish.I am a responsible recreational fisherman and allways stick to the bag limmit.I pay my liscene fee every year and I expect to get value for money.More marine parks of this nature will take away my right to spend my chosen time on the bay with my familly.I will NEVER vote for any political party that threatens to take away my rights. DO NOT VOTE GREENS.ALL FISHERMAN UNITE.UNITED WE STAND.DIVIDED WE FALL.

Kris Eric - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

I oppose to extension of further marine parks in Victoria.

Scott Brownlees - Melbourne, Vic. Aus

Why should fisherpeople, the people that actually use, care for and enjoy the ocean be locked out, because that is what a selfish minority want?

Wayne Coulton - narre warren, vic. australia

Travis Parker - Dandenong North, VIC. Australia

I can't believe they think they can get away with taking a survey of the top Victorian fishing spots and attempt to put a blanket ban on them. Such small-mindedness. Fishermen are already great at conservation of fish stocks, this reeks of preservation.

No name entered - melbourne, victoria. australia

i vehemently oppose further victorian marine parks enough already

Heidi and Tess Cahill - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

How will I go fishing with dad if the government stop us? Its not fair

Paul Hourmouzis - Donvale, Victoria. Australia

dan murgo - melbourne, victoria. australia

Fishing isn't a matter of life or death it's far more serious than that.

Gavin Woodward - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

Enough is enough ....you already have your marine parks so quit it already.

Damien Straford - Melbourne, Vic. Australia

Totally against marine parks. We care for our environment as much as any one else!

Paul Vanderkley - ballarat, vic. aus

If you seriously want to fix our waterways piss off the desalinisation plants on our coasts and put the money towards an australia wide superpipe that can use the flood waters from the annual floods we see in queensland and northern territory instead of it just flowing out to sea . Yes it would be expensive but stop wasting money on other things and s[pend it on something that will service us for generations to come. Greenies theres something to spend your time campaigning for . when it is finally built maybe you can pour some of the excess fresh water into our starved river systems.

Damian Lupton - Melbourne , Victoria . Australia

Enough is enough .... We recreational anglers pay thousands to fish in our local waters. I'm all for sustaining our fishery but this getting beyond a joke. Sensible bag limits, encouragement for recreational anglers to participate in research and a reduction in comercial fishing would be a far better approach.

Greg Wilson - St Andrews Beach, Victoria. Australia

No more marine parks. We have to take a stand for ourselves and our kids future rights

Nik Johannsen - horsham, vic. australia

the goverment will shoot them self in the foot over this

John Christie - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

Any restriction place upon recreational fishing must be based on genuine research and done in consultation with those affected. This is an ambit claim by VNPA, unscientific in its nature and mischievious in its intent.

Andy Long - Flinders, Vic. Aust

When are Marine Parks going to do something about the quality of our sea water. Stop the POO line & slag from the Desal plant.

Noel Kenneally - geelong, vic. australia

Enough marine (political)parks, no more,i want my grand kids and their grand kids to enjoy our great marine areas with out being banned from fishing for no sound reason

rob wittick - melbourne, victoria. australia

i vehemently oppose further victorian marine parks

lachlan nikolajew - sale, vic. aus

you have to be fucking joking...banning recreational fisherman, wake up to yourselves, ban the commercial fisherman before you consider us... we have a minimal impact compared to the trawlers, and not only that, i will be considered a criminal for doing something i have done my entire life

ADAM THOMPSON - ECHUCA, VIC. AUST

leave our recreational activities alone so we can all enjoy our free time.

Louie Chalouhe - Sydney, NSW. Australia

The science needs to be correct and not distorted by the GREENS. Commercial and Rec fishos need to unite. Its a cause that impacts both not just us rec fishos. The Greens will turn from Conservation to Protectionists. This is coming. They are united , well organised and well funded. We have alot of votes but are not any of the above the GREENS are. We can get there but we need to be educated, not emotional and united. This is an Australia wide issue not just Victoria , NSW etc...

Brian Diprose - Beech Forest, victoria. Aus

Whatever happened to peoples rights we as fishermen and women must fight to stop this madness and do it in such a way that it can never be canvassed again just not what the best plan of attack is

Laurinda Hodges - Beech Forest, victoria. aus

NO NO NO how many people in victoria fish on a regular basis how much does the recreational fishing industry inject into the economy anually how many boats are sold how much bait, fuel accomodation, tackle and associated equipment is sold as well as other considerations like giving kids an alternative to computer games and so forth, remember "give someone a fish and they will eat well, teach them to fish and they will eat well for the rest of their lives" BUT NOT IN VICTORIA do this brumby and you wil lose the next election, be very sure of this

joey camilleri - melbourne, victoria. australia

always voted for labor you have just lost my vote .as l oppose against any further marine parks .

Rod Roncari - Beaconsfield, Victoria. Australia

There are more people fishing Port Phillip and Westernport Bays than ever before and yet both bays are thriving. Leave the recreational fishermen alone!!!!!!

Jack Monkiewicz - Melbourne, VIC. Australia

My family and I will not be voting Labour - Greens!!! This is our coast line, Australians coastline, we are the primary stakeholders, not just another political scapegoat. Bugger You VNPA, you are lying scum!!!

Dirk Mulder - Yarra Glen , Victoria. Aurtralia

This is crap, Peter Garrett and the Green party need to be fed to the sharks!!!

Richard Mapson - Mitcham, Victoria. Australia

No more Marine Parks without proper consultation wilth ALL stakeholders!

Charlie Micallef - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

It is time to take action, no more talking we must all be together and show the world how we feel we must rally and do it quickly do not underestimate these groups they are very powerful and financial, we must also focus on having the corporate sector on our side this is very important as they will be the ones to bring the money to the table for us to fight this battle, with out them we will find it very difficult to win this battle Sincerely Charlie Micallef

Travis Dutka - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

Stop VNPA

Travis Luke Dutka - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

scott sapsford - Tathra, NSW. Australia

Fishermen look after the ocean better than any stinking greenie office boy

No name entered - Melbourne, VIC. Australia

Back Off ,Mr Garret, and get some real factual scientific evidence.

alex deacon - newcastle, nsw. australia

dont take away the best leisure activity for so many, the greens are a weird bunch.

Joe Speziale - Melbourne, VIC. Australia

More Marine parks, aah that's right the Greens are so switched on. Just like a fish, "don't think just react", are well just have to burn more fuel to get a feed, keep our search and rescue organizations stretched to the max, and watch the kids come back in with not so happy faces. It'll be a real shame. As for the commercial fishos, i can't say anything that hasn't already been said, well i can, but it's in bad taste !!!

johnno - melbourne, victoria. australia

Peter Raymant - MELBOURNE, VICTORIA. AUSTRALIA

WHAT IS THE POINT IN HAVING A FISHING LICENSE?

Anthony D'Adam - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

kristian frey - melbourne, vic. aus

I strongly oppose any further Marine Parks PERIOD.

Peter Baluca - Melbourne, VIC. Australia

I strongly oppose any further Marine Parks PERIOD.

Steven Clowes - Melbourne, Victoria. Australia

the seaweed beds are gone because of the misuse of land surrounding Westenport bay. draining the original swamps south of princess highway has led to an increase in sedimentation. its an absolute joke. the way things are going, marine parks wont matter, the marine species will dissapear if nothing is done to stop sediments comming out of the major contour drains.

Lynette Best - Hervey Bay, Qld. Aust

We dont want any more marine parks in any state - all that achieves is the same amount of boaties in a more confined fishing area = boat rage. Surely size and bag limits are a better solution

vince borgese - melbourne, victoria. australia

i can not believe the government would allow this to go on i will let you know what i really think can't stand the fucking greens what do we have to do to get rid of the fucking bunch of ignorant pricks they are trying to take away something that most hard working australians love doing in their past time how poor is that, that red head bitch can go fuck her self not me or any of my family will be voting for her fancy her helping them fucking cocksuckers out that is a disgrace hope i haven't offended any one but it,s about time some one stood up and tells it like it is

John Kovacs - Rosebud, Victoria. Australia

722,000 fisherman in this state are fishing responsibly, maintaining bag limits and adhearing to sizes, we don't need any more restricitions, i oppose any further marine parks for Victoria!

steve matthews - launceston, tasmania. australia

fishing is a way of life for many australians instead of trying to stop us enjoying our leisure time why dont we start with a more practical approach like banning pet food processors from putting fish into their products

andrew glenn - warneey, vic. australia

closed season not closed beaches,if we stop the kids from fishing what will they do ? take to drugs and crime

Jamie Passick - Rye, VIC. Aus

Is fair consultation and dialogue too much too ask? That'd be the fairest way to make an informed decision before this tragic proposal is implemented.

Michael Giatz - melbourne, victoria. australia

We have enough marine parks , responsible angler are being locked out of these fishing grounds & they & their families are missing out on sharing this resource , whuch is for all free men , women & children to use .

So many of the descriptions of the new proposals refer to the biodiversity of areas as they now exist - recreational fishing has apparently not had any historically detrimental effects if this diversity currently exists and is unlikely to be adversely affected in future. Similalry with rookery habitat - currently supporting breeding colonies so it is difficult to see why banning recreational fishing is necessary.
