Devilbend Reservoir - Update July 2011

July 23, 2011

This week Peninsula Total Tackle attended a meeting held by key stakeholders regarding the opening of the Devilbend Reservoir for freshwater fishing. We're pleased to be able to report some information that the local fishing community will be pleased to hear.

It is likely that Devilbend will open publicly by late March or early April 2012.  The draft management plan will be released in the next few weeks allowing for public comment and key stakeholders to express their opinions.

The reservoir has already been stocked twice.  Including over 22,000 Brown and Rainbow trout.  This adds to an already healthy population of Redfin.  The stocked fish ranged in size from 50g to 530g - so there will be some very good sized fish by the time Devilbend opens.

Anyway, it would seem there are good times ahead for freshwater fishermen of the Mornington Peninsula... but not without a lot of hard work!  The process to open Devilbend has been going over a decade now!!  Well done to those who have spearheaded the push, you have done a magnificent job for the benefit of all!

Being part of the responsible fishing community we implore anyone who chooses to fish Devilbend after the opening to do so with a conscience!  Please take your rubbish and fishing line away so that we can all enjoy what will be a fantastic local freshwater fishery.
