Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 10/09/10

September 11, 2010

It’s been a mixed week of reports with a couple of small windows to get out in the boat but we were largely dominated by some pretty fierce conditions including cyclonic wind!

For the land lovers out there, good catches of mullet and salmon have been caught at Rosebud Pier this week. And don’t be afraid to fish directly under the pier and around the pylons where the schools of mullet will regularly be seen hanging around.

Squid going off at Sorrento & Portsea pier… and there has been some real quality amongst the catches. Colin Sires presented us with another couple of impressive squid to almost 1.5kg. And don’t forget the boat ramps, there were some whispers of people bagging out at Sorrento Ramp this week.

Baz with another quality specimen!

Gunnamatta has definitely been a bit quieter this week, with the reports seemingly more spasmodic.

Something a little different, customer Peter came in and showed us a great feed of natural Port Phillip Bay mussels. He collected the mussels along the Rosebud beach.

Joe Farr reports that the whiting are on the move and in good numbers around Sorrento. As usual, the whiting have fished very well again this winter, down around Point Nepean, but as is consistent with their annual pattern they are beginning to appear in good numbers a little further up the peninsula.

A couple of reports from a little further afield – Greg Beatty sent us a nice pic of a mixed bag of fish that he caught out of his yak in Beaumaris Bay. A very nice mix indeed!

Greg's mixed feed... almost a smorgasbord.

Staff Gav reports that there are absolutely no mulloway at Corinella!! He reports this with his tongue firmly lodged in his cheek after a fruitless land based mission to Corinella. Gav and mate Bruce said it was so quiet that they did not even lose a bait (which was very good quality freshly caught squid). And that as they say is fishing….
