Peninsula Total Tackle Report 01/11/2009

November 1, 2009

Welcome to the very first Total Tackle Report! Thanks for the support over our first couple of weeks in business. It’s been great to get a lot of encouraging feedback. We have some very dedicated fishing staff on board and look forward to a long term relationship with all of you.

So let’s talk fishing...

The size of squid being reported has increased over the last week or so with plenty of reports of 2kg specimens coming in. If you are able to take to the water in a boat you will see the best results, but you don’t have to go far! The weed beds from Blairgowrie to Sorrento have been productive as has Lonsdale bight. Baited jigs have accounted for a number of the bigger models as have Yamashita jigs in the Naturals range (colours KNH and AAJG).

Silver Trevally have been caught on the Sorrento Pier. Try fishing at night around the light posts using sabiki rigs.

Customer Nevan and customer Angelo have separately reported their first Snapper catches of the season coming from the area known as ‘the Fairway’. Other season reports have seen some good fish come from Bell Reef off Queenscliff and masses of pinkies out off Barwon bluff. Try the water between 40m -50m.

We have had reports of school whiting around the Portsea boat moorings.

Almost-staff member Jay Furniss managed a thumping Gummy Shark around 18kg from the south channel, late last week. The fish took an octopus tentacle that had recently been caught in the area. Jay has also been clearing the bay of calamari with exceptional catches in the last week.

Staff member Sean, drifted for flathead on Sunday managing to pick up 40 or so fish. As it goes with PPB flathead, many were throw backs although some pushed the 40cm range.

Be sure to get down to the shop between now and Friday the 23rd of October as all purchases over $20 will receive a FREE Matsumoto Squid Jig!

Let's hope we see a few more of these...calm seas and blue skies!  The next break in the weather looks like it will arrive late on the weekend.
