Peninsula Total Tackle Report 26/2/2010

The Tootgarook weed beds have seen some quality catches of whiting this week. On the whole the whiting are fishing very well on the Peninsula. We’ve had continued catches from amongst the Sorrento boat moorings as well as in front of the Blairgowrie Marina, in the shallows between the Shark hole and the south channel.

Although we try not to report the same information each week, this particular report we have to make mention of the Gummies again. This is an absolute pearler of a time to target this magnificent species evidenced by Dan Lee, Jay Furniss and mate Brad who had a fantastic session on Thursday morning. The boys landed three gummy sharks weighing 11kg, 15kg & 16kg in the space of about 2 hours. All fish took strips of Octopus.

Staff member Joe Bruno snuck out this morning with customer Duo for twenty squid while drifting the Sisters off Sorrento. He also managed a couple of thumpers off the Sorrento pier this week to 1.5kg.

Rat kings have been reported to 4kg off Barwon Heads if you fancy venturing a little further afield this week.

Gar fish still rage on with massive catches seen at Dromana Pier. Fish to 40cm were being caught hand over fist on Sunday morning. Having said that, the evenings and even late afternoons have also been very productive on the species.

Finally, on Thursday night this week we had a very special fishing evening featuring Jarrod Day, Charlie Micallef & Dan Lee. We’re pleased to say the night went really well, with plenty of interested participants keen to hear tips about fishing Westernport and targeting big southern Port Phillip Bay gummy sharks. Big thanks to the Rosebud Motor Boat Squadron for the use of their brilliant facility and everyone else who helped put the night together.
