Peninsula Total Tackle 4/3/2010
March 4, 2010
The squid fishery has just been awesome this year. This week has again seen plenty of customers seeking out the best jigs with constant reports and ‘bag-out’ stories. At the moment our most popular jigs include the Harimitsu in EWC colour, the Yo Zuri RS in GOS, the Yamashita in IBA and the Dartmax in D23CS. Whether you seek squid for bait or a meal, the Peninsula is a fantastic area to target this species both land based and from a boat. Sorrento Pier & the shallows out from Blairgowrie Marina, the pick of the areas this week.

A classic catch. Two very effective jigs - the Harimitsu and the Yamashita.
A lovely Port Phillip Bay mixed bag.
An over enthusiastic pinky inhales a squid jig!
Land based gars continue to fish really well with some large models coming from Rosebud. Maggots have been the best bait, but plenty of people are using silverfish with good success too.
We’ve had more reports of late season snapper around the aqua culture leases north of the south channel Fort and north east of Mud Island. Fish to 5kg have been taken on fresh baits. The 22 – 23m has proven most productive.
Jason with a Westernport Hammerhead shark caught whilst fishing for Mulloway.
Whiting to 44cm continue to come from Tootgarook, the Sorrento Sisters & the Pinnace Channel areas. The whiting fishing has been great over the last few weeks and should provide for some good fishing over the long weekend.
Further afield, staff members Dan & Joe fished for Mulloway off Corinella on Wednesday night this week. Unfortunately, no cigar on that front however they can report that the Elephants are on the rampage if you enjoy chasing these curious looking creatures.

Joe Bruno and Dan Lee fished for Mulloway on Wednesday, they caught plenty of these but no Mulloway!
Finally, if you like a spot of gossip, this week there have been whispers of Striped Tuna appearing offshore again!
If you would like to be a part of our weekly report feel free to send photos and details of your catch to info@peninsulatotaltackle.com.au
