Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 18/6/2010
June 18, 2010
Firstly, we’ll start with a sighting this week. We’re not sure what it is about the Rosebud shallows but it does seem to attract some interesting visitors. This week customers Russel and mates were fishing out of the Motorboat Squadron harbor in about 7m when approximately 4 metres of Great White shark surfaced at their tinny to have a look. The fish was as long as the boat so the boys were pretty impressed with the visitor! After a couple of passes the fish moved on.

On the whole, it would be fair to say that the Queens Birthday was a success for those amongst us who like to get out for a fish. With Sunday and Monday providing fantastic winter fishing weather, with very little swell, it was a weekend which really left options open for everyone – back beaches, piers, the boat etc.

High on the agenda was chasing Salmon. A quick stroll down to Gunamatta on either Sunday or Monday saw you amongst literally dozens of fisherman. Some nice catches of Salmon were reported with a few fish nudging 1.5 – 2kg and a lot of smaller specimens.
For those chasing Salmon, the best fishing, however, was again inside the bay. The area surrounding the Dromana mussel farm was busy, with young customer Xavier getting amongst the action and snaring a couple of nice fish. Land based, Anthony’s nose, Dromana pier and Rosebud pier, where a massive school were hanging around after dark on Sunday, saw plenty of action with fish to 2kg taken.
Whiting were busy with good catches coming from the shallows on the northern side of the shark hole in front of the Blairgowrie marina. Dan Lee, daughter and niece, fished the area for a good bag of calamari and flathead. Land based customers Tony and Fay were rapt to land half a dozen excellent whiting all around 40cm from Sorrento Pier using cocktailed mussel and baby bottle squid baits.

Milla Lee looks on suspiciously at her catch... She is still developing her inner fisherwoman.
James Maffescioni found success chasing squid from the Mt Martha rocks this week with some new jigs he purchsed. He reported cala to 1kg.
On the other side of the Peninsula, Tim Knights and mate Tim Cook fished the Shoreham beach for salmon on the evening flood tide. They managed a couple of nice fish, using fresh mullet bait, as well as a quality table gummy at about 5kg cleaned.

Out of Town – Gav Fallon took a drive to the Tarra River near Port Albert for the last day of the trout season. He caught and released 8 brown trout to about 1kg, reporting magnificent scenery if you have not been down that way… now if we can just convince him to take a camera next time….
