Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 28/01/2012
January 28, 2012
For a lot of people this week will see the return of school and work. If you happen to be sitting by your desk idly dreaming of the holiday that was, send us a few of your recent captures… we’re always looking for more fishing reports! Send phone pics and your story to 0421 359 022.
We seem to have had another influx of gars this week. Gar floats and bait have been hot property in the shop. And best of all, they are an easy target both land based and from out in the boat, with our local piers, such as Rosebud, Sorrento and Portsea seeing plenty of action. The key trick to getting a bag is to get some burley running. Many novice anglers underestimate the power of the burley. Just make sure you use a fine or ground mixture – it will see you coming home with a bag of fish.
Huge numbers of gummy reports continue to come in. They’re coming from the back beaches and almost every accessible channel out in the bay at the moment.

Matt Cini from Reel Time Charters (0438 302 093) has only run a few gummy shark charters this season over in Westernport. The results however have been excellent with Matt reporting good fish between 8kg - 17kg being caught on fresh yakka baits and trevally.

Brent Rietman caught this 6.5kg red deep of Rye. We have had a few reports of some solid snapper between 5.5kg and 7kg being caught in the tidal water around the north east of mud island this week.
Whiting always the popular target at this time of year have been firing on cocktail baits of pippi and whiting at the Rosebud Reef and at Safety beach. The Rosebud Reef off the rosebud pier is a great place to take kids as you are always in with a chance of a mixed bag, pinkies, flathead and squid all commonly caught their.
