Peninsula Total Tackle 14/01/2012

January 14, 2012

Well this is our first report back for 2012 after a busy few weeks of serving our customers down on the Peninsula. Happy new years to all, hope your fishing has been good fishing over the last few weeks!

We’ve compiled a bit of what’s currently happening and also thrown in some pics that have been sent to us throughout the last few weeks. Whilst it’s busy at this time of year with plenty of people on the peninsula, the best thing is that we get all sorts of different reports with almost every available species being targeted by someone out there!

Send us a couple of pics and a story of two of your latest fishing adventure! Send pics and info to 0421 359 022!

First up, big news over the last few weeks has been the return of the Australian Salmon schools to the heads area. It’s been a couple of years since we last had such a good showing of salmon in the RIP, but they are back – with a vengeance – and the size of the fish is impressive with plenty pushing 3kg.

SENSATIONAL SNAPPER COMP – Big congrats to young Ben Treloar who took out first prize in our sensational snapper comp with a 7.48kg fish. John Johnston won the Random Drawer Prize. Both winners took home hundreds of dollars worth of snapper gear including fantastic Shimano Baitrunners and Souther Snapper rods.

Whiting are probably the favourite target species at this point in the year and we are getting particularly good reports from Queenscliff through to the stick at St Leonards. Fish are also being found close to home at Sorrento but the amount of boat traffic can be a bit of a nuisance for those keen to wet a line.

Offshore, the Makos are yet to really fire up. We have had a number of customers out with only a few sharks being caught. Our suggestion would be to start a your drifts a little closer to home – maybe in amongst a salmon school and see what that produces.

Glen and mates landed this big mako that went 133kg around Christmas while fishing off Flinders.

Out of Town, the Wright family journeyed to Port Albert to get stuck into a some nice mixed bag fishing. The guys caught plenty of whiting, gar and other table fish including flathead, mullet, salmon and even some flounder caught while spotlighting. The fish were caught on a combination of plastics and bait.

Tim Ffyfe, brother in law, Micah, and mate Ryan fished at Merrimbula over Christmas.  The guys were somewhat hampered by the wind which stopped them venturing off shore too often.  They still managed one nice day out where they caught a nice mako and also got amongst some King Fish.
