Peninsula Total Tackle Report 7/01/2010

January 8, 2010

Pinkies have begun to appear on the back beaches of the Peninsula. We’ve had a number of customers reporting good catches of pan size pinkies coming from the Portsea back beach as well as occasional catches from Gunamatta.

The Snapper have slowed a little but some good catches are still coming from out deep.

For those land based it has been a good week with strong reports from a lot of the piers and land based spots. Anthony’s Nose has been fishing well for Bay Trout and King George Whiting after dark. Rye pier continues to turn it on for the crowds targeting calamari or mullet in the mornings. Flinders Pier has also seen plenty of calamari action in the evenings.

The whiting have been firing on the weed beds to the east of Mud Island on the ebb tide and it is worth keeping a steady burley trail running as the gars have also been prolific in the area.

We have had a number of excited customers this week reporting sightings, bust-offs and a couple of captures of Yellow tail kingfish. One customer who was diving the Rosebud reef, saw a school estimating 500 odd fish, while some rats have been caught trolling the heads with octopus skirts.
