Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 18/02/2012
February 18, 2012
The wind has not been kind over the last week, but looking ahead over the next week, things are looking better down our neck of the woods. And there are plenty of options out there, with a few light northerlies predicted over the next week, there will be opportunities for some off shore king work, maybe a chance to catch some salmon in the heads or stick in the bay for the plethora of fish available.

The gummy run is running pretty white hot at the moment. Last week, with the full moon, we saw some massive catches of gumbos including Benny Broomfield, The Gummy Whisperer, who along with a mate took a horse which was estimated at 30kg, bottoming out a pair of scales which had a max load of 23kg.

Andrew Walter with a 20keg Gummy. One of two caught for the evening.
Benny B and Dale with an estimated 30kg beast!
Dale with the biggun'.
Brett Elwers caught this beauty from the beach at Jam Jerrup.
This was one of a couple that Brett and mates got from Point Leo.
They have also caught a few of these...baby School Shark.
Salmon schools are still busting in the RIP and just outside. The schools are split up at times now, so if you keep your eyes open you will often find two or three patches rising to the surface at once. A good opportunity to break from the other boats and work your own school….
Staff Jason found big numbers of metre long barracouta mixed amongst the salmon this week – a good food source for makos. Might be worth doing a shark trip sometime soon…

Jason caught these 'coota at the Rip and the 'tingas from Portsea.

Good customer Steve Knight, his daughter Maiah and wife Lizzie had a nice day on the water fishing off Mt Martha. The guys managed a handful of good frogs as well as some nice squid... a fine meal in anyone's books!

February is one of the best months of the year for catching land based King George whiting around the bay. Water temps are up and these tasty fish come in close looking for sand worms and other creepie crawlies exposed by the water movement close to shore. Brent Rietman has been proving the fact by taking some great bags of fish from the rocks around Ricketts Point.
Brent doing well on the LB KG Whiting.
A good feed of some of the best eaters in the bay.
Brent's father - also pretty good at nailing a mixed bag - must run in the family!
Closer to home there have also been good catches of solid whiting coming from Anthony’s Nose.
Some good size squid to about a kilo have been making an appearance. Lonsdale Bight is a good starting place if you want to find some of these bigger models, but we have had good size cala further in the bay too.
Gawaine Blake from Big Time fishing Charters (0411 103 367) - single handedley making most Melbourne Fishos drool!
Blakey has been smashing some big local kings.... out of Westernport. Hats off mate...

The boys cracked some fish between 15-17kg this week. It simply doesn't get better...
And finally a Bronzy taken by Big Time a week or so ago. Estimated at over 120kg and taken on 15kg line, all the boys on the boat got to have a turn fighting the fish.

Out of Town, staff Dan Lee ventured to Port Stephens as part of the Fishnet State of Origin group. Including about 10 boats of mixed Victorian and NSW fishos , the guys had a great two days fishing. While day one was windy the action was still pretty good for the weekend out at the area known as the “Car park”. Approximately 30 Striped and Black marlin were tagged with at least as many lost. Most fish were taken on slimey mackerel live baits, fished around the huges schools of bait holding in the area. Good times.

Port Stephens Little Beach boat ramp.
The crew on 'Fed Up'. Kyle Stacey's, producer of Jaks Lures, beautiful big 233.
First fish to Curly Baker... congrats mate.
These guys can play havoc with the bait jig when searching for slimies.
Greg Beattie - beauty!
Frank Bonnaccorsi with a Black.
Pat with a pretty fish.
Look at the colour of the water.
What not to do with a bait jig! Jay Furniss managed this on the first drop of the bait jig and had to fish the remainder of the day before stepping back on land and removing it!
Staff John Cahill continues his year over in Bali… he sent us a couple of happy snaps he caught of GT’s this week which were jigged from deep water. The fish took 400g Fast Eddi knife jigs in 120m of water off Sanur. Follow John’s trip at his blog at http://ebbtideadventures.blogspot.com.au
