Peninsula Total Tackle Report 12/2/2010
February 13, 2010
It’s been a few weeks since we last mentioned the ‘S’ word but it’s time to do it again…Snapper are on the chew again and although the size of the fish is smaller than what it was prior to Christmas there seem to be plenty about. Customer Andrew Walters found a nice patch of pinkies in the deep water out from Symonds Channel. He caught around 15 fish to 40cm. The key bait at the moment seems to be pilchard, or if you are looking for a trophy fish, fresh Calamari. We’ve had a number of customers reporting a good bite period around dusk.
Staff member Dan Lee, took the family for a quick spin on Wednesday and collected a great feed of whiting, out at Mud Island. The fish were running hot on the flood tide taking cocktail pippi and squid baits. Dan was pleased to report his daughter Milla’s first ever catch, aged two.

Anthony’s Nose rock wall in front if McCrae has turned it on in the evenings for those chasing King George Whiting land based. Fish to 43cm have been reported fishing in the evenings and after dark. Some good catches of whiting have also been taken at Rye pier.

Gars continue to fish well for those who are both land based or out in the boat with many customers taking their catch limit from Rosebud pier, Rye pier and Dromana Pier .
The excellent weather this week provided a great opportunity to venture off shore. Jay Furniss and mates decided to try their luck for Crayfish and were rewarded handsomely. They managed to find seven crays over two days, diving the back beaches and were rapt to catch an absolute monster pushing 5kg.

But wait, there's more...!
Out of town, customers Baz and Neil ventured to Port Macdonell this week. They fished west of the lighthouse out on the shelf. The boys were happy to report back the capture of two Blue fin, the larger of the two going 38kg. Bird and bait activity was a bit slow, but the two fish are still a good sign of things to come over the coming months.
Finally, Peninsula Total Tackle has a sale on this weekend so be sure to stop by for savings of up to 25%! All stock is marked down.

Staff Joe Bruno ventured out again this week for another late season snapper. Self portrait if you didn't guess!
