Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 20/08/2010
August 20, 2010
And while the elements have again been against us this week we can take comfort in the fact that spring is less than two weeks away and the weather will certainly turn in our favour sooner rather than later!
Finally, some good news for those who fish the Heads area… Some big schools of Salmon have started to make an appearance, which has seen some keen anglers trolling up some quality Sambos. Fish to 2kg have been caught this week. Only problem now will be waiting for a break in the weather to get down there and have a go!
While in the area it is worth shooting over to the Lonsdale bight or, a little further, to the mouth of Swan Bay where some fantastic squid fishing has been taking place. Customer Sam reported a thumper at 3.5kg that he caught in the area.

Sam's big squid!
Jay Furniss of Hocking Stuart Rye, got amongst a massive bag of squid on Tuesday fishing off Blairgowrie. He said the hungry cala were absolutely on fire, taking all manner of jigs.

Colin with a nice cala caught with Joe Farr. Remember to bring your calamari catches into Total Tackle for a weigh and measure and entry into our squid comp!
Some big whiting have been caught on the ebb tide around the mouth of Swan bay and at the Sorrento Yacht Club.
Land based, Chris and father John again smashed the salmon at Blairgowrie Marina – the fish are pretty consistent if you get down there on day break.

Chris and John's haul of Salmon.
Gars are still on fire from all the piers, with plenty of quality fish being taken from Safety Beach.

Gars aplenty at the moment - a good burley will have them bubbling at your feet in no time.
A bit further afield, staff Gavin was up at the Patterson River this week on a sneaky mulloway mission and saw 5 or so quality bream to 45cm taken on crabs fishing near the freeway.
Out of Town – Jay Furniss took a long awaited trip to Malaysia in search of Sail Fish. Fishing out of Rompin, a couple of hours drive north of Singapore he had an awesome experience catching and releasing 16 Sails over three days. The boys caught the fish on 4000 size reels and rods rate 3-5kg, sounds like a lot of fun considering they caught fish to 35kg. Great stuff and killer pics.

Classic capture, Jay Furniss with a light tackle Sail fish. All fish were released after being caught on circle hooks.

Long Tom, long toothies!

Dancing on water - spectacular sails!

Up close and personal before release!
