Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 30/03/2012
April 1, 2012
It’s been a sensational week, where we have been blessed with some awesome autumn weather which has meant conditions were great for fishing around the heads and off shore. The Kings fired up in a big way with some excellent mid-morning bites. One of our staff Jason managed four fish all around 10kg while fishing with Jay furniss. The guys took the fish on poppers and jigs. Plenty of fish were also taken on leadlines trolling squid strips.

Staff Jason and Jay Furniss caught some great kings this week!

All smiles with these Mornington Peninsula kings!
Jay Furniss with another of the quality kings they caught this week!
Peninsula Kings woo hoo!
This is the trawler that ran aground this week at the heads courtesy of a drunken captain. Jay Furniss took the photo early in the week. By the end of the week it was completely submerged... At least we have a new Kingy reef!

Joe Farr from Joe Farr fishing Charters (0488 229 752) also got stuck into a good school of Kings off Point Lonsdale. The guys were trolling the fish up having a ball!
The other big news is that the surf scene seems to have kicked into gear pretty early. As late as yesterday we were getting reports of Aussie salmon to 2kg being taken at Gunnamatta surf beach. They’re big fish for this time of year and definitely worth a look. There was nothing unusual about the baits they were taking – the humble olf piece of blue bait doing most of the damage.

Mick Mizzi and some of the Mr Fisho crew have been up at Eden this week. Pictured here is Harley with a nice 27kg Yellowfin taken wide.
Travis caught this 15kg fin on a 4000 Stradic - good honest fun!
Mick reports that kings have been a bit quiet although there have been a few taken.
Out wide in the bay the snapper are still firing. Fishing between 20 – 21m off Rye or Mt Martha, depending on which way you are looking, will see you in the right area. One of our customers Brett Edwards has been doing particularly well on flathead fillets and fresh yellowtail scad which are prolific in the bay at the moment.
Brett Edwards, aka bigbad, with some very nice late season reds.

Mixed amongst the snapper have been some very nice gummies.

Bigbad reports flathead fillets as being one of his best baits at the moment.
Out of Town, Staff Dan Lee ventured with the family down to Shallow Inlet, near Wilson’s Promontory, last week spending a few nights camping and fishing. With three young kids in tow, there were no off shire trips but plenty of inlet fishing, where they took good mixed bags of King George, Yellow Eye Mullet, Pinkies, flathead and Silver Trevally. Most of the fish were taken on the last couple of hours of the ebb tide each day. Good honest fun, in a nice protected inlet – ideal for the young ones.
Milla Lee with a king george whiting she caught at Shallow Inlet.
Harper Lee with a whiting she "caught".... or helped reel in at least!
Harper examining one of the plump yellow eye mullet caught on the edge of the inlet channel.
Pumping nippers can be a lot of fun... the kids love it.
Chloe Lee with a school whiting... not big but still fun to catch.
Dan Lee, embarasingly, with the smallest fish for the trip!

Brett Elwers has been fishing land based for elephants around the top end of western port. He reports that it has been a bit slow although guys in Kayaks pushing just a bit further off shore have been doing well.
