Peninsula Total Tackle Fishing Report 03/09/2010
September 3, 2010
We had a cracker start to the week with what seemed like the first true spring weather. The thermometer managed a quick spurt to the late teens and the water glassed out for a couple of great days fishing.
And it seems squid were pretty high on the target list. Jack Mckee bought in a cala weighing 1.4kg with a 39cm hood. It was caught out of his kayak. While Baz Gorman caught another 1.1kg cala while fishing down off Portsea.

Jay Furniss from Hocking Stuart Rye, Merlin and Paul ‘Ancaman’ Barton got out on Sunday and also got amongst the squiddly action. The boys bagged out over the course of the day, with Merlin kicking big goals on an imported white Owner squid jig that Jay bought back from his recent trip on the Sailfish.

The whiting have started moving back up the peninsula with a few good fish being found amongst the boat moorings at Portsea and Sorrento.
Joe Farr from Joe Farr Fishing Charters reported some good offshore fishing down at Anglesea. The boys burned down there from Sorrento and caught gummies, tiger flathead, seven gill shark and a bucket load of pinky snapper. If you want a ride in Joe’s new monster Patriot, or are thinking of booking a snapper charter, you can call him on 0488 229 752.

Baz Gorman with a tasty gummy.
Land based, we had a couple of good reports of whiting coming in from Mornington Pier last week before it was closed for an upgrade. The works on the pier will continue through until December this year.
Dac Craig spent a bit of time bait fishing at Portsea this week and found himself catching some very nice Salmon to 2kg. Fish took half a pilchard.

Dac and his catch.
Customer Mark, headed to Flinders Pier with his new Gladiator Egi Rod and was pretty pleased to get stuck into a few healthy calamari. The combined weight of his catch was 2kg, a fair meal in anyone’s language.

Our staff member Paul Barton has asked me to do a shout-out for a carpentry apprentice (Paul’s real job is in carpentry, not hanging around tackle stores – believe it or not?!). If you know anyone who might be interested please phone him on 0408 008 972.
Finally, take a look at this snap shot of Joe Bruno’s first attempt at mounting a mulloway. A pretty good effort for his first completed skin mount. ‘Job Joey!
